In the Redcliffe Novels series, we meet NHS nurse Sally Frost who leads a double life as lieutenant and law enforcer for the Redcliffe werewolf pack. Eye of the Tiger (A Redcliffe Novel) – Book 4

Excerpt -

Glancing at the wall clock I saw that the time was barely two o’clock. It felt like I was in a time warp here, waiting to close the shop and see what magical mischief I could get into that evening. At least, that’s how my life seemed now. Perhaps I was being a little melodramatic.

            “Alright,” Jack replied, “What has upset you?”

            “Oh, the usual,” I said with a huge sigh, “Finding out I’m a witch with a scary animal familiar, discovering that my boyfriend is a vampire, oh and that my local friends are werewolves. Or were,” I caught my breath as the tears surged forward again.

            “You are mourning the loss of your friend,” Jack said, “It is only natural for a human.”

            I nodded and then remembered that Jack was on the phone.

            “Yes,” I replied quietly, “She was too young to die like that.”

            “She did her duty as pack lieutenant,” Jack said, “She was a hero.”

            “Doesn’t make it any easier,” I said.

            “No,” Jack agreed, “You need time to ease the pain.”

“Why must you run away from our wolf, Jessica?”

            I opened my eyes as I heard the voice of my animal familiar, Suri, drifting through my head. Rinsing shampoo out of my hair, I angled my head forward so the jet of hot water hit my shoulder blades. The shower pressure was nice and strong, and I took a moment to savour the sensation, almost like a massage. My shoulders were very tense these days.

            “I didn’t run away from him, Suri,” I said out loud to the empty bathroom, “He was busy with Simon and I didn’t want to intrude.”

            “He always has time for us,” my snow tiger insisted, “You are his mate. You come before all others in his pack, and you know it.”

            I shuddered even with the heat of the shower enveloping me. This magic was very strong, and very potent. It frightened me, not least because I was the one that had made the connection with Danny, and I didn’t know how. Apparently, my animal familiar was very powerful in her own right, but she remained trapped in a magical world somewhere within my psyche. I couldn’t explain it to anyone, although I had tried with my human best friend Liz. It was very difficult.

            “I am not his mate,” I insisted, smoothing conditioner into my hair, “I am his friend. And I am his brother’s girlfriend.”

This anthology contains adult themes, and scenes of a sexual nature. The short stories offer a glimpse into the sexual adventures of a fledgling witch, her vampire and werewolf, and their friends in various situations.

Celebrate #PrideMonth at NN Light’s Book Heaven @NNP_W_Light

Did you know that most of my novels and short stories feature LGBTQ+ characters? I don’t set out to include them, or to write specifically about the characters in their unique perspectives. They simply have natural preferences to same sex or whatever feels natural. And to that end, I am participating in Promotion with Pride at N.N. Light’s Book Heaven.

You might like to read about my gay and bisexual werewolves in the Redcliffe novels series. Or my lesbian vampires in Vampire of Blackpool and Return of the Vampire Hunter. I am currently working on a couple of gay vampire novels set in Manchester, and I will also soon offer up something very different and much darker than my usual writing style… But that is top secret and you must wait until I am allowed to reveal more!
