#AmWriting Ghost Hunter Diaries

It is funny how random encounters can trigger memories and encourage us to act. Last week I received a phone call from a journalist, and following that conversation, I remembered that I never did write up my Ghost Hunter Diaries for publication. These are a series of memoirs from my years of ghost hunting with North West Spirit Seekers, around ten years ago. I learned a lot about mediumship and paranormal investigation, and I experienced a lot of activity in various locations, mainly around the North West of England, but I also managed a few hunts in other parts of the country, in Wales and in Scotland.

Interested? You can read a few of my original Ghost Hunter Diaries over on my SpookyMrsGreen blog. For now, I am writing up the non-fiction book into some sort of coherent form, and I will begin seeking a publisher. Do you have any suggestions or know of any open submissions?

Back to School, Back to Work

Summer is ending, and we are eagerly awaiting the Autumn season. Well, I am. I don’t know about you. I certainly did not enjoy the summer heatwave we had here in the UK, and I am ready for a change. My children go back to school this week, and we can get back in the work routine. For me that means many different things. I am currently applying for part time jobs, with little success so far. I am still trying to work out how to make my books sell, how to find my audience, how to create products that people want to buy. It is a tricky process, but I refuse to give up.

My Redcliffe novels series needs to be complete. I am doing the final edits on Heart of the Vampire (A Redcliffe Novel), book 5. Then I will finish writing Bite of the Wolf (A Redcliffe Novel), book 6. Once they are done, I will be free of a series that has dominated my life for about the past ten years. It is a very involved process, let me tell you. Now if only I could find the people that want to read these books… back to work!

Book Review: Untangling the Webs by Joy Pearson

This book made me feel excited about growing older! Now, that might sound odd, but bear with me. Untangling the Webs is the story of relationships and real life. We follow the journeys of women who have experienced love and heartbreak, who have battled through illness, raised children, nurtured careers, and kept on going when life got tough. This book picks up the story of a retired woman mourning for a missing lover, a woman in her early forties who finds love when she has given up hope, of women who have been “the other woman” in other people’s marriages. I liked the fact that all the characters had flaws and strengths in equal measure, making them likeable and believable. The webs mentioned in the title could well represent the physical journeys taken by these women and men, as well as the entanglements of their lives. They all meet up somewhere along the line, and I enjoyed reading the story as it wove together, and bits of the puzzle clicked into place. Oh, and there was some good sex in there as well, if you like it a little bit racy!

You can buy Untangling the Webs in all the usual places, and you can request it from your local library in the UK. Find Joy Pearson on Facebook and learn more about her personal journey as she wrote this book. You won’t regret adding this one to your reading pile!

Night Stairs to Dormitory #LoveCastles

Do you like my title? Sounds like a fascinating book, don’t you think? Well, it hasn’t been written yet, at least not by me. I just returned from a family holiday in Northumberland, and we visited the Holy Island Lindisfarne. Using our English Heritage membership, we visited Lindisfarne Priory, and enjoyed a fascinating tour of this religious relic. I found the site peaceful and full of intrigue, including the information plaques that were scattered about the ruins.

This one in particular caught my imagination. The ruined steps are crumbling and stand in the middle of a grassy area, what was once the priory hall. Looking across and up, I could see more steps floating in the ruined tower, and I could only imagine how it must have felt to be a monk trudging up those dark and cold stairs on this lonely island all those centuries ago. Why did they have night stairs to the dormitory? What was the significance? I couldn’t find out while I was there, but I haven’t yet read the guide book that I bought. Perhaps that will hold the answers I seek…

Secrets: Dreya Love Book 3 by Dana Lyons

There’s no going back.

Martin Nash was once seven years old and longed for words of love from his mother. At thirty-five, he knows he’s never going to hear them from her. But he’s willing to kill for as long as it takes … until someone tells him the words.

As Dreya, Rhys, Quinn, and Simon discover the dangerous position they’re in by being Noble, they search for a way to fit exceptional into their everyday life. While old habits provide a never-ending challenge going forward, no one would go back.

Nobility transformed them and their lives.

Nobility, a genetic modification created by Dr. Anthony Lazar, uses latent animal DNA to cage the human ego and bring mankind a higher moral code free of envy, greed, and jealousy. Noble means possessing an exceptional character in the face of adversity. Dreya, Rhys, Quinn, and Simon discover being Noble and exceptional in a human world isn’t easy.

In the midst of this uncertainty, Dreya puts herself in the line of fire with a serial killer who has a fetish for eyeballs. What she doesn’t know is …

Nothing is safe and nowhere is private.

It’s not a good time to have secrets.

About the Author

Where did my writing begin?

In the winter of 2002 I sat down and wrote my first romance. This surreal experience lasted 7 days, with a one day break in the middle. I wrote 10,000 words a day. What I produced was awful, but a great story. I had obviously been bitten, and yet I didn't know how to write, simple as that. So the process of learning how to write began for me with RWA. I jumped into the conferences, seminars and online courses with determination, reading books on how to write, and how not to write. I went to meetings with other want-to-be writers and published authors and listened to what everyone had to say. I shelved the first novel because another story had taken root in my mind and I began THE ROSETTA COIN. My critique partner sent it back looking like sushi. :-( But I kept working because I knew writing was a talent I could polish. The paranormal experiences my characters work through are loosely based on the possibilities of a Multidimensional Universe laced with the spooky actions of Quantum physics. A new time travel romance is currently working, with plans for another adventure novel coming next, followed by a sequel to Druae. Adding to this mix, I have an idea for a time traveler series. It seems there is always another story to write, bringing new readers to Dana's work.

We are the Mischief Makers

The school summer holidays have begun, and my daughters have signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge at our local library. This year’s theme is Mischief Makers, featuring Beano characters to create an interactive reading challenge. So far, we have read about half of the required books, but we have yet to fill in the details on our treasure hunt maps, and we must visit the library to collect stickers for the ultimate reward. It keeps us busy!

My novels are adult paranormal with equal amounts of dark romance and contemporary English Gothic. Sign up now for special offers, book release news, and your FREE Redcliffe story to get started.
