#TheRedcliffeNovels at #ArtsLab @RedShiftRadioUK @MarkSheeky

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of joining presenter Mark Sheeky on the #ArtsLab art and culture show for RedShift Radio. It has been a while since I did a radio interview, but I think it sounded alright… what do you think?

World Book Day #WorldBookDay20

Happy World Book Day! I am ridiculously excited about this day, even though I don’t really get involved with activities. I am visiting my daughter’s class at school to read a book later today, but that’s about it. Still, I love any excuse to talk about books, to pick up a book, to worship books and the art of reading. And later this month we celebrate books and writing with the Scribe Festival right here in Middlewich. Fantastic!

I heard a lot of news coverage about parents complaining that they have to dress their children up in World Book Day costumes. We don’t do that in my local area. My daughter’s school are running a game where they ring a bell at regular intervals, the children must stop what they are doing, pick up a book, and read. Sounds like my kind of game… The chosen book theme is Mr Men, which is a childhood favourite of mine. I have selected some vintage books from my personal collection to take for my “Mystery Reader” session.

Have a fabulous, booky day, my friends!

A Fabulous Book Signing Event

I just had the most amazing weekend! It started on Friday with a daytrip to the ICHF Stitch and Hobbycrafts exhibition, where my mum, sister and I indulged our crafting habit and made a few cheeky purchases… Then on Saturday came the big event. I attended the West Midlands Valentines Book Signing Event (I missed the evening Ball due to a prior commitment), and it was fabulous! I look forward to my next book event, which will be Scribe Literary Festival in March.

My Vampire Boyfriend & Valentines Book Signing Event

I have been very quiet on the book front for the past ten months or so, and with good reason. I am still writing, but I am also planning and organizing my books and their design. One challenge has been that of the book cover, and to that end I am in the process of having professional covers designed for some of my self-published books, in keeping with the contemporary Gothic feel of my work. Today I give you My Vampire Boyfriend (A Redcliffe Short Story Anthology) - what do you think?

Grab your copy of the anthology today, then come and see me in Telford this weekend so we can discuss all things Gothic, vampire and magical... I'm bringing my Tarot cards!

Unleash Your Creative Spirit

We have only one week left until my first book signing event of 2017, and I am rather excited now! I haven’t been to Telford for several years, so that will make a nice change to my weekend routine. I look forward to seeing all my author friends and colleagues at the event, and of course, meeting new readers. Come and see me! I am eager to see you.

After considering my options with regards to book swag, and the fact that my business finances are rather slim after a few advertising experiments, I decided to get creative with my offerings. Before I became a published author, I spent a lot of time making greetings cards and bead jewellery. It was my method of relaxation after a long day at work in a demanding job. This was before I had children, of course, when the evenings belonged to me. I would stamp and colour and embellish to my heart’s content.

The arrival of my babies interfered somewhat with my hobby. Now, whenever I step near my craft cupboard, I hear cries of, “I want to do painting, Mummy!” and “I want to do crafts with you!” That is lovely, of course, but with young children comes a lot of mess, and I cannot simply sit and craft in peace. So, I started doing it in the evenings again. I set aside my marketing and computer work, and revisited my old hobby. And I have created some beautiful book themed greetings cards and bookmarks that I will bring to the book signing event. What do you think?

Happy New Year and Book Signing Event Plans

I might be a little ahead of myself since we are still technically in December, but let’s face it, 2016 has been a bit of a challenging year. It seems that every day we lose yet another famous face in the celebrity world. My personal life has been one of upheaval and drama throughout the year, and before that to be honest. So I for one am very much looking forward to 2017. I believe it is the start of a new cycle, a new beginning, and lots of new and exciting experiences.

One of those experiences is something I am especially excited about. On Saturday 4th February, I will attend the West Midlands Valentines Book Signing and 1940s Ball. Hooray!  Unfortunately, I cannot attend the evening ball due to a prior commitment, but I will be at the event all day long to showcase my Redcliffe novels series and my contemporary English Gothic stories. Come and say hello, and why not try a few books while you are there?

Happy New Year, my friends. Thank you for joining me on this journey!

A Very Successful Event Launch #SASE

What a fabulous weekend it has been! We enjoyed our very first Sandbach Author Signing Event (#SASE) in Cheshire and it was a huge success. Lots of wonderful indie authors gathered together to talk about their favourite genres, their style of writing, and to offer advice and guidance for visitors. We shared our books with new people, made some new friends, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet up in person, rather than speaking so often on social networks.

I am already looking forward to attending #SASE in 2017, and in the meantime, I am on the lookout for similar events in the UK that I might be able to attend. I am now officially finished for 2016 in terms of public events, apart from one or two intimate gatherings. I am now working hard to complete #NaNoWriMo2016, and I am also contemplating the challenge to join in with #Blogmas – a blog post every day in the run up to Christmas, starting on 1st December.

Phew! What are your current writing goals/achievements? Please do share, and let’s keep each other motivated during the month of writing dangerously…

#NaNoWriMo and a new #Tarot project

The month of madness has begun, and I am off to a reasonable start. On 1st November I wrote 1667 words, which is the exact daily target if I want to win #NaNoWriMo! My next day was not quite so fruitful, and my current estimated finish is 5th December, but I know that will fluctuate massively during my writing month. How is your #NaNoWriMo shaping up?

In other news, I am all ready for the Sandbach Author Signing Event that happens this Saturday, on the 5th November. Seems like only yesterday the idea was hatched after a local library event, and now it is upon us. Wow! I look forward to meeting lots of new people, taking time away from being “Mummy,” and enjoying the company of writers and entrepreneurs. It nourishes my soul, getting away from domestic routine occasionally.

And, finally, I have started another new project, because you know, I don’t have enough stuff to fill my days! I decided to start a #365daysoftarot challenge. Every day I will do a tarot reading. Some days it may only be one or two cards, other days a few more, and occasionally I will do a big spread. Those sorts of readings tend to come at sabbats and seasonal transitions, so my next big tarot reading will probably be Yule. Eventually I plan to turn it into a non-fiction book as my career expands. Who here is interested in that kind of thing? You can see my Samhain Tarot reading for free over on my Pagan Housewife blog.

Now I must be off. There is work to do… Speak to you later!

Join Us for the Sandbach Author Signing Event

We are almost into the month of November, and it will be crazy time for me as I immerse myself once more in the Redcliffe novels and continue writing book 5 in the series for NaNoWriMo. I will need a break from the computer, however, and so you can come and see me, and keep me sane (I hope) at the Sandbach Author Signing Event at Sandbach Town Hall on Saturday 5th November.

#SASE

I will be there all day, along with 20+ authors from around the UK, exhibiting our new books, talking about our experiences in writing and publishing, and generally meeting new people. We can be very reclusive, when we bury ourselves in our writing projects, and so this is our way to be social and make friends. You can also bring your children along to join in with the Cartoon Academy workshops, the Fairy Sanctuary, and more. We even have a visiting cover model, former soldier Martin Nelson, in residence for you to have a photo with!

From Mummy to Author and Back Again #ASMSG

This week has been a busy one, as always. I seem to spend my days switching from Mummy to author and back again, in a constant battle to fit everything in. Every weekday morning is the same routine as I struggle to get both my girls dressed, fed and off to school and preschool. Two days per week I have my youngest daughter at home with me. And this week, on one of those days, I took time out to do an author talk and promote my books to some new people.

On that afternoon I left my daughter with friends, drove thirty+ miles to the town where my talk had been arranged, did the deed and got back home just in time to collect my elder daughter from school. It was certainly an adventure as I traversed the rush hour motorway traffic and drove through a busy town centre.  But I thoroughly enjoyed myself, because it was something different. It felt like I was doing some proper author-related stuff after neglecting my books in favour of blogging.

You see, I have another passion that is currently taking priority - SpookyMrsGreen: The Pagan Housewife. This is my pagan lifestyle blog website and it is growing into something far more business-like and exciting. Now I am receiving products to review, and I have a growing schedule of official blog posts to write and share. And I really enjoy that, too! Sometimes I want to write, but my stories just don’t seem forthcoming. On those occasions I can write something casual for my blog, and that satisfies the urge but without the added pressure of needing to fulfill a word count target, or make the story fit, or perfect a scene that is refusing to play nicely.

Actually, if you are interested, I am running a special Halloween offer over on my SpookyMrsGreen blog. You can get a free Vampire Tarot Reading if you head over there now and sign up… and if you haven’t already read it, I am throwing in a free copy of It’s Complicated (A Redcliffe Short Story). That way you get vampires and werewolves, and everyone is happy!

I’m a #CampNaNoWinner2016!

July has been a very busy, and very challenging month for the pagan housewife. I have run around being Mother, Wife, Author, Blogger and Business Professional, frantically trying to balance everything that is important in my life at the moment. One thing I was determined to see through was my participation in the July writing challenge that is CampNaNoWriMo. And I did it! I completed my challenge, and wrote 30,030 words to finish the first draft of a novel I began writing back in 2013.

With a working title of The Vampire Hunter, and a very rough first draft completed, this novel is a long way off publication just yet. But the point is, I did it. I wrote another novel, and added another manuscript to my portfolio that I can work through at my leisure. It felt so good to be writing my stories again, after spending the past month or so focusing solely on blogs and non-fiction projects. The Vampire Hunter definitely needs a new name, and I will take some time to ponder on that later. For now, here is an excerpt, for your eyes only!

It was a tough fight tonight. Jennifer had expected nothing less, but still, she might actually need some hospital treatment when this was over. Her left arm was bleeding heavily, hanging at her side, her chest heaving with exertion. She didn’t feel pain yet thanks to the adrenaline coursing through her body, but she vaguely recognised that this was going to hurt later. Oh well, it was nothing she couldn’t handle. It was just another night in the life of a vampire hunter.

Jennifer! Jason yelled from across the room, Incoming!

Her head snapped up as she realised she had been about to collapse. With a burst of energy, she blocked the punches of the vampire bassist, sending him tumbling to the floor amid the debris of the pub they had destroyed. The creature hissed and snarled, leaping to his feet and refusing to back down.

You will die for this, hunter! the monster screeched.

Jennifer pulled her body upright with huge effort and remembered that she still held a sword in her right hand.

Maybe, she agreed grimly, But not tonight.

She thrust the blade into the vampires chest before he realised what she was doing. He had been toying with the hunters, and now his own arrogance would be his undoing. Jennifer remained unemotional as the silver blade penetrated through a ripped, blood-soaked t-shirt and sliced into cold, icy flesh. It broke the bone and ended in the creatures heart, such as it was. The vampire stopped moving, lifting its head to stare at her in shock. Everything slowed down to this moment. The creature screamed and tried to dislodge the sword, but it was too late. His body imploded, falling limp and collapsing in a heap of ashes on the floor at Jennifers feet. She barely glanced at it before moving to her next target.

Meet the Pagan Housewife at Crewe Alexandra FC

I am getting out there again! This socializing thing is becoming a bit of a habit, and I have to say I rather enjoy it. You can meet me, Catherine Green, aka the Pagan Housewife, at Crewe Alexandra Football Club this Bank Holiday weekend. It is really easy to get there by train or car, since the stadium is right behind the train station and about 10 minutes drive from the M6 motorway.

On Saturday 28th May I will be talking about British Paranormal Romance, my writing process, and showcasing my novels, including the official launch of The Vampire of Blackpool. Come and join me if you love reading, love to write, and love to support your local Indie book scene.

On Sunday 29th May I will be talking as SpookyMrsGreen, the Pagan Housewife, and sharing tales of my ghost hunting adventures, my pagan lifestyle, and being an eco-conscious parent. Both talks are in the Pink Room at 2:15pm, and there are lots of other talks and workshops happening throughout the weekend.

See you in Crewe!

Have Your #Spiritual Healing in Stafford this #Easter

I have a busy couple of weeks lined up. First off I will be appearing at the newly refurbished Sandbach Library at their “Meet the Authors” event on Wednesday 16th March. Then I have family time arranged for the following weekend, and then my children finish school for the Easter holidays. And then you can come and see me at Stafford!

Our next mind, body and spirit event is at the Arthur Findlay Centre in Stafford on Easter weekend. I will be there to talk about my work as the pagan housewife, and my journey to becoming a published author and solopreneur. You can ask me all about writing, getting published, how to get started, or even about the ghosts I have seen that helped fuel my imagination for the books…

Of course, I will not be alone. There are many fabulous people for you to meet, including fellow authors Christopher Gilmore and Stephanie J. King, international medium Janey Hitchcock, the house dowser Chris Quartermaine, and a vast array of stalls offering crystals, spiritual healing, alternative health remedies, beautiful arts and crafts, and much more.
