Not Your Average Valentine - Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel)

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today I would like to offer you a little something from the werewolves, just to shake it up a little. We return to the first novel in the Redcliffe series, Love Hurts. I wrote this many years ago when I felt the pain of young, romantic love. For me that love turned dark when my vampires and werewolves appeared on the scene.

With that in mind, here is an excerpt where our heroine Jessica Stone witnesses a mysterious exchange between the werewolf alpha Danny Mason, and his lieutenant Sally Frost. At this point Jessica is not aware of vampires and werewolves, and she has no idea of what she has gotten herself involved in.

Excerpt Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 1

Danny was standing close to Sally, and he looked quite angry and intimidating. In fact he looked different, more frightening, very like Jack had on that morning when he pinned me in the bedroom. Sally seemed to be acting submissively to him, as though she had done something wrong, but I couldn’t imagine what. Surely, they must be a couple and they were having an argument. But why would Danny be in the hospital when Sally was working? He should be at work today I knew that. He was dressed in jeans and a smart shirt rather than his usual surfer clothes. I knew enough to see that these were his work clothes. Maybe he was on an investigation or something.

End

Mysterious happenings, aren’t they? Ha, ha! If you haven’t read Love Hurts yet (and why haven’t you?!), here’s your link to get the book.

Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel) by Catherine Green

Love Kills is book 2 in the Redcliffe novels series. In the quiet Cornish seaside town of Redcliffe, Jessica Stone recovers from a horrific werewolf attack and comes to terms with revelations that her lover, Jack Mason, is a vampire, his brother, Danny, the werewolf pack leader, and her best friend, Simon, is a werewolf.  Add to that her discovery that she is a witch, and life is suddenly a whole lot harder than it used to be. Jessica has to fight for her own life and Jack’s when faced with his jealous vampire master who wants her old lover back. But things are never easy, and a vampire master is not so easy to defeat…

The Redcliffe novels series follow the adventures of bookshop owner Jessica Stone as she meets a man and falls in love, only to discover the hidden werewolf secrets of her close friends. That includes Simon Bunce, manager of the Ship Inn, who turns out to be lieutenant to the Redcliffe werewolf pack, and lover to the wolf alpha Danny Mason. He fights to protect his master from the ethereal animal familiar who threatens to claim their pack. Who knew the Cornish coast could be so deadly?

The Redcliffe Novels series by Catherine Green

The Redcliffe novels follow the adventures of bookshop owner Jessica Stone as she meets a man and falls in love, only to discover that he is a vampire and his identical twin brother is alpha to the local werewolf pack. She is dragged into their complicated and dangerous lives to her detriment, where she discovers that nothing is as it seems in the pretty Cornish town that she calls home. She uncovers her own secrets, and those of her supposedly human friends, but most of all she learns the true power and pain of falling in love.

My Vampire Boyfriend (ARedcliffe Short Story Anthology) is a Kindle exclusive book that contains adult content and reveals the true nature of vampires, witches and werewolves when they are not battling for power and control.

Excerpt from Love Redeems (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 3:

A silence fell around us, and I could feel our energies shifting in the air.  Mine was turbulent, full of anger and anxiety.  Jack’s was cold and controlling.  Danny’s power was hot, forceful and full of promise.  Simon’s was similar but with less strength.  Eventually I moved backwards, feeling the need to break the tense emotion that filled the air.
“Jack,” I said, “You should get going.  You have work to do.”
He blinked, the only movement he made.
“Yes,” he said, and then he stepped forward to give me a kiss.  It was a peck on the lips, and he hugged me briefly, “You can control her,” he said, catching my eyes with his, “And you will resolve things with Liz.”
Tears choked me suddenly.  I swallowed, forcing them back as I stepped away from Jack.
“Thanks,” I said, “See you later.”
He left with a brief nod to Danny and Simon.  When the door closed behind him I looked at the two wolves standing in my kitchen.  Both looked like stereotypical surfer dudes.  Danny was wearing khaki trousers with a bright yellow t-shirt that had a crazy abstract print on it.  Simon was wearing black baggy shorts with a green t-shirt.  His blonde hair fell in unruly waves around his face, and his sunglasses were hooked into the front of the t-shirt.  I hadn’t even noticed the sun shining outside, although I did feel the unusual warmth of this early autumn day.
“Ok,” I said with a sigh, “Shall we go and watch TV like normal people?”

#TheRedcliffeNovels – Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 1

Set in the fictional seaside town of Redcliffe in Cornwall, Love Hurts is about a young woman who runs a bookshop with her best friend. She falls in love with a local police detective and later discovers that he is a vampire, and that his identical twin brother is a werewolf. She is dragged into their complicated and dangerous lives, to her detriment, where secrets are told and lives are lost...

What vampire book genre is the book?
My novel is a contemporary paranormal romance

What are the ‘themes’ of this book?
There is adult content, sexually explicit scenes and scenes of violence

What is the setting of your book series or book?
The Redcliffe Novels series is set in the fictional seaside town of Redcliffe in Cornwall, England.

What’s in store for readers?
This is the story of my heroine Jessica Stone as she struggles with being in love with a vampire, while having sexual feelings towards his identical twin brother who is a werewolf. To further complicate things, Jessica discovers she is a witch, and since she was orphaned at a young age, she had no family to guide her into her heritage. Things kick off with the aid of her newly discovered non-human friends, and her easy life spirals out of control.

Words from the Author

I have always been fascinated by the vampire myth and wrote my dissertation on vampires for my university degree. Contrary to popular folklore, I have always viewed vampires as a romantic and misunderstood creature, although I do not doubt their ability to kill and destroy. To me they represent the primitive, dangerous part of ourselves that humans prefer to ignore.

***Sneak Preview!*** Heart of the Vampire (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 5 #TheRedcliffeNovels

Welcome to the Season of the Witch and all things Spooky, my friends! I am excited to announce that we are now counting down to the launch of my next book in the Redcliffe novels series: Heart of the Vampire. Samhain is fast approaching in Redcliffe, Cornwall, and Jessica Stone must learn about control, power, and the love that she truly feels for her vampire boyfriend and his brother. Here is your sneaky preview:

Jessica, Simon said in a low voice, What is wrong?
He glanced to his left, following my gaze, and Danny did the same. Both men clearly saw nothing and returned their attention to me. I watched as Sally stood straight and looked at me with a small smile. She was clearly not solid, but I could recognise her features, the same long blonde hair that she wore in a high ponytail, her pale skin that she would accentuate with fake tanning lotion, and her bright blue eyes that had been both gentle and dangerous when she was alive. And she knew that I could see her.
I staggered back, almost falling onto the sofa, and Simon leaped forward to steady me. I held out my hand to stop him, not wanting to be weak, and I managed to keep my composure, but in the split second that I turned my attention to Simon, the vision of Sally disappeared. She never spoke. She simply vanished.
Jessica? Simon said again, hovering uncertainly nearby, What did you see?
I swallowed and looked from him to Danny, and then back to the empty space behind the desk. Danny was frowning and looking to his left, rubbing his arm as though he had an itch.
Didnt you see her? I asked.
Both men shook their heads, but Dannys expression turned from puzzled to knowing as he realised what I must have seen.
Sally, he said in a flat voice.
Simons head jerked round as he stared at his master in surprise.
            I nodded.
Yes, I whispered, I think I just saw a ghost.

A Witch in Cornwall #TheRedcliffeNovels #paranormal #Gothic

I looked at her and she gasped and stepped back, shielding the baby in her pram instinctively.
“Jess,” she whispered, “Your eyes are glowing.”
I shook my head and blinked furiously, forcing Suri to back off and leave me alone. The tiger disappeared with a growl, but she knew she would get her way eventually. I focused on calming the energy that was whipping around me in an invisible storm. I did not need this right now, and Liz definitely did not deserve it.

Jessica Stone used to be a normal human. Then she fell in love with a vampire, met his identical twin werewolf brother, and her life fell apart spectacularly. Meeting Detective Jack Mason, and his brother Danny, brought about a powerful change, and Jessica’s magic was released. Now, in Redcliffe book 4, she must learn to control her ethereal animal familiar, who lusts after the alpha werewolf, and will stop at nothing to use her human mistress as a tool... Or is that a weapon?

Coming Soon: Eye of the Tiger (A Redcliffe Novel) #ASMSG

I am very pleased to announce that book 4 in the Redcliffe novels series will be published this summer. Yes, Eye of the Tiger (A Redcliffe Novel) is finally finished. I have been working on this baby since 2013, although I’m sure you will understand the delay when I tell you that my youngest child is three years old…

Nevertheless, I persevered amidst the chaos of breastfeeding, nappy changing, and everything else that babies and toddlers need. I also worked on a few other novels in the interim, when new ideas presented themselves and new characters were born. Well, you will see the cover reveal for Eye of the Tiger (A Redcliffe Novel) very soon. In the meantime, if you haven’t read the first three novels in the series, you had better get reading!

Book Review: She Wolf by Elizabeth Morgan

I finally got around to reading She Wolf by Elizabeth Morgan. This is a contemporary werewolf love story set in Scotland, and I loved it! The scenery was beautiful, as you would expect. We hear the story of a werewolf pack with ancient lineage, and how its youngsters continue the family business. And then there is the love story between our feisty she-wolf and her mate. The tension is brilliantly worked, and the characters could be my mates from the local pub, I feel so familiar with them. I highly recommend this book!

Rugged, Scottish Werewolves – how could I resist?

This book is seriously sexy, and deeply passionate. I like the way it is told from both protagonists' points of view. I feel like part of the pack after reading this book, and now I need to read the series!

#AtoZChallenge - Shapeshifters are Sexy!

OK, I admit, that is a slightly daft title. But it fits my mood, and I like to lighten things up a little when it comes to discussing the Redcliffe novels. After all, my novels can be pretty serious, even if they are designed for a commercial market. But they also have their comedy elements, a bit of fun, and a reflection of British life in an isolated town, albeit with lots of paranormal activity thrown in. I have a confession to make. I do think that Shapeshifters are sexy. And I say shapeshifters, because I don’t just mean werewolves, who seem to dominate the Redcliffe novels at the moment.

Ah yes, my beloved wolves. Perhaps I feel an affinity for them because I love domestic dogs so much. A lot of the behaviour of the Redcliffe wolves is inspired by my own pet, Baxter. He is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier X, and we nicknamed him Wolfie, because sometimes he does resemble his wild kin, especially when he bares his teeth and puffs his fur out. Wolves are incredibly protective, powerful, and noble creatures, I think. But as I said, they are not the only shapeshifters in Redcliffe. Not all shapeshifters are wereanimals. Some are witches with powerful animal familiars, who use the human bodies of their host to offer protection and magical assistance when necessary. Have you met Jessica Stone’s snow tiger, Suri? She is a fascinating creature, and the cause of much conflict and confusion for Jessica.

There are other wereanimals that make an appearance in the Redcliffe novels. We certainly have not met them all yet, and I know there are a few new characters waiting to introduce themselves. We have briefly met a couple of tigers, a husband and wife who run a popular café in the nearby city, where the local supernatural community meet up. Jessica met them when a friend took her there, and she was quite literally stunned. They are vibrant, attractive, powerful, and sexy. And they will become more mainstream in future Redcliffe novels. They have made that very clear to me! Finally, I believe that vampires exhibit shapeshifting qualities. My vampires do not dissolve into mist or turn into bats. They are more subtle than that. They can cloud a human mind, effectively making themselves invisible, using their magical powers of persuasion. Their physical features contort when they feed, and they snap from human to monster in the blink of an eye…

Book Promotion and the Indie Author

I feel a little frustrated this morning. No, I feel very frustrated actually. My Redcliffe novels are not selling as well on Amazon as they were earlier in the month, and although I understand that the Author Central feature is not always completely accurate, I use it as a guide in the absence of regular sales figures. My books do sell in other formats, but Amazon is still the most popular, probably because it is the most accessible.

Like most of my fellow author friends, I simply do not have the money to pay for promotional advertisements in big publications and on popular websites. All I can do at the moment is flog my wares across the free social networks, and keep trying to build a fan base using Twitter and Facebook. It is working. My numbers have increased significantly during the last 3 months alone. But it isn't good enough. I want to be an international bestseller. That is my ultimate goal. And dammit, I will succeed!

So, what do I try next? My plan now is to do another round of letters to literary agents, and try to get my books sold to a big publishing house that can afford to promote me. I know this is a very long shot. I also know that it isn't always as straightforward as that. All I can do is try. At the very least my books will seep into the public consciousness if I keep on talking about them to anyone and everyone. Never give up. Never back down.

If anyone has suggestions on how I could promote my books more effectively, or any advice based on personal experience, please do let me know. I am eager to learn, eager to expand, and when I do finally have some spare cash, I am willing to spend it on advertising. I am also not averse to assistance with funding from a willing benefactor or organization... just saying!
