Christmas with the Vampires (Short Story)
Yule Blessings, my friends! I am feeling very festive this week and
looking forward to Christmas Day and some time with family. Did you read my
festive horror story, Christmas with the Vampires?
I published it shortly after The Darkness of Love, because bad-boy
vampire Marcus Scott insisted that I write another story for him. Since I was
busy with babies at that time, I compromised and wrote him a short festive
story. Tell me what you think…

Writers Block Won’t Stop Me
I never believed in writers’ block, and I still don’t. What I do believe
is that sometimes we just don’t feel the inspiration to write, unless we sit
down and force ourselves to make a start. I have been procrastinating with a
short story that I needed to write for an upcoming anthology. It only needed to
be about 5000 words, and it needed a holiday romance theme, not too heavy on
the sex, and certainly not violent. I really struggled!

Why I Didn’t do #NaNoWriMo
This year I consciously avoided participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). It has been something of
an obsession for about the past five years. I eagerly awaited November so that
I could achieve my 50,000-word target, print out my certificate, and order the
t-shirt. It worked well for me, because it helped me to write the first draft of
several novels, some of which I have now published. You can read my last NaNoWriMo novel, Heart of the Vampire (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 5 to see an example.
At some point I realised that I no longer needed NaNoWriMo. I have a collection of draft novels awaiting my
attention, and I am so busy with freelance work and family life that I really
couldn’t fit in the challenge this year. I didn’t want to. If I really needed
to take part, I would make the time possible, like I did in previous years. But
it simply lost its appeal. I loved the time I spent working on NaNoWriMo projects, and I would
recommend it to anyone who is looking for a starting point, some inspiration
and motivation, and the online support groups that come with it. But I am
moving on. Farewell, NaNoWriMo. We
had a good run together.

A Hard Lesson for an Author #nevergiveup
I think I need to face facts. For the past seven years I have been
trying to promote and sell my Redcliffe
novels series of adult paranormal romance novels set in Cornwall, England.
These stories came about from an idea I nurtured as a teenager, but back then I
wasn’t confident enough to write them down. Instead I left them to simmer in my
subconscious while I read as many paranormal, supernatural and occult books as I
could get my hands on. It opened up a whole new world, and indeed a new way of life,
as I discovered paganism and modern witchcraft.

***Sneak Preview!*** Heart of the Vampire (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 5 #TheRedcliffeNovels
Welcome to the Season of the Witch and all things Spooky, my friends! I
am excited to announce that we are now counting down to the launch of my next
book in the Redcliffe novels series: Heart of the Vampire. Samhain is
fast approaching in Redcliffe, Cornwall, and Jessica Stone must learn about
control, power, and the love that she truly feels for her vampire boyfriend and
his brother. Here is your sneaky preview:
“Jessica,” Simon said in
a low voice, “What is wrong?”
He glanced to his left, following my gaze, and Danny did
the same. Both men clearly saw nothing and returned their attention to me. I
watched as Sally stood straight and looked at me with a small smile. She was
clearly not solid, but I could recognise her features, the same long blonde
hair that she wore in a high ponytail, her pale skin that she would accentuate
with fake tanning lotion, and her bright blue eyes that had been both gentle
and dangerous when she was alive. And she knew that I could see her.
I staggered back, almost falling onto the sofa, and Simon
leaped forward to steady me. I held out my hand to stop him, not wanting to be
weak, and I managed to keep my composure, but in the split second that I turned
my attention to Simon, the vision of Sally disappeared. She never spoke. She
simply vanished.
“Jessica?” Simon said again, hovering uncertainly nearby, “What did you see?”
I swallowed and looked from him to Danny, and then back
to the empty space behind the desk. Danny was frowning and looking to his left,
rubbing his arm as though he had an itch.
“Didn’t you see her?” I asked.
Both men shook their heads, but Danny’s expression turned from puzzled to knowing as he
realised what I must have seen.
“Sally,” he said in a flat voice.
Simon’s head jerked
round as he stared at his master in surprise.
I nodded.
“Yes,” I whispered, “I think I just saw a ghost.”

I Called, and You Came – Thank You!
Last week I went through a mini crisis of confidence. My freelance work
had dried up and my blog seemed to have fallen into a void, with little or no
response to recent blog posts. Perhaps my fragile ego needed some attention. Maybe
I just felt like having a tantrum. Whatever it was, I decided to write out my frustrations,
and posted on SpookyMrsGreen.com
with the desperate title Is Anyone There?
The answer was swift and was a resounding yes! Not only did I receive some
very heartfelt comments on the blog post, but some of my close personal friends
spoke directly to me and said that they do read my blog posts, and they enjoy
reading them. That is all I needed. I love writing. I want other people to love
what I write. Yes, alright, my blog posts are personal and will sometimes be
completely irrelevant to other people. Other times I will post sponsored
content or reviews. But all of it comes from the heart, my heart, and that is
the point of being a writer. Thank you, my friends. I truly appreciate your
love and support.

Writer Friends are Important
The life of a writer can often become isolated, lonely and very quiet. We
spend so much time scribbling in notebooks, typing on our computers, and pondering
the next twist in our story, that we forget about the world around us. Unless it
can offer something for the work in progress, of course! I find it difficult to
relate to my husband and friends when I am immersed in a writing project. They don’t
want to hear the nuances of my job, and I don’t want them to know the plot
until I am ready for them to read the story.
That is when my writer friends step in. I am fortunate to have a couple
of friends that live close by, so we can meet up for a drink and a chat when convenient,
and we can work through the challenges, bemoan our lack of sales, share advice
and tips, and generally lift each other up when we feel low. I have a similar network
on social media. These are friends that I don’t see regularly, but we share
each other’s books online, we share relevant news, and we support each other. Sometimes
all you need is someone experiencing the same challenges, so that you know you
are not alone. And for this I am very grateful to my writer friends.

#AmWriting Ghost Hunter Diaries
It is funny how random encounters can trigger memories and encourage us
to act. Last week I received a phone call from a journalist, and following that
conversation, I remembered that I never did write up my Ghost Hunter Diaries for
publication. These are a series of memoirs from my years of ghost hunting with
North West Spirit Seekers, around ten years ago. I learned a lot about mediumship
and paranormal investigation, and I experienced a lot of activity in various
locations, mainly around the North West of England, but I also managed a few
hunts in other parts of the country, in Wales and in Scotland.
Interested? You can read a few of my original Ghost Hunter Diaries over
on my SpookyMrsGreen blog. For now, I
am writing up the non-fiction book into some sort of coherent form, and I will
begin seeking a publisher. Do you have any suggestions or know of any open
submissions?

Back to School, Back to Work
Summer is ending, and we are eagerly awaiting the Autumn season. Well, I
am. I don’t know about you. I certainly did not enjoy the summer heatwave we had
here in the UK, and I am ready for a change. My children go back to school this
week, and we can get back in the work routine. For me that means many different
things. I am currently applying for part time jobs, with little success so far.
I am still trying to work out how to make my books sell, how to find my
audience, how to create products that people want to buy. It is a tricky
process, but I refuse to give up.

Book Review: Untangling the Webs by Joy Pearson
This book made me feel excited about growing older! Now, that might
sound odd, but bear with me. Untangling the Webs is the story of
relationships and real life. We follow the journeys of women who have
experienced love and heartbreak, who have battled through illness, raised
children, nurtured careers, and kept on going when life got tough. This book
picks up the story of a retired woman mourning for a missing lover, a woman in
her early forties who finds love when she has given up hope, of women who have
been “the other woman” in other people’s marriages. I liked the fact that all
the characters had flaws and strengths in equal measure, making them likeable
and believable. The webs mentioned in the title could well represent the physical
journeys taken by these women and men, as well as the entanglements of their
lives. They all meet up somewhere along the line, and I enjoyed reading the
story as it wove together, and bits of the puzzle clicked into place. Oh, and
there was some good sex in there as well, if you like it a little bit racy!
You can buy Untangling the Webs
in all the usual places, and you can request it from your local library in the
UK. Find Joy Pearson on Facebook
and learn more about her personal journey as she wrote this book. You won’t
regret adding this one to your reading pile!

Night Stairs to Dormitory #LoveCastles
Do you like my title? Sounds like a fascinating book, don’t you think?
Well, it hasn’t been written yet, at least not by me. I just returned from a
family holiday in Northumberland, and we visited the Holy Island Lindisfarne.
Using our English Heritage membership, we visited Lindisfarne Priory, and
enjoyed a fascinating tour of this religious relic. I found the site peaceful
and full of intrigue, including the information plaques that were scattered
about the ruins.

Secrets: Dreya Love Book 3 by Dana Lyons
There’s no going back.
Martin Nash was once seven years old and longed for words of love from
his mother. At thirty-five, he knows he’s never going to hear them from her.
But he’s willing to kill for as long as it takes … until someone tells him the
words.
As Dreya, Rhys, Quinn, and Simon discover the dangerous position they’re
in by being Noble, they search for a way to fit exceptional into their everyday
life. While old habits provide a never-ending challenge going forward, no one
would go back.
Nobility transformed them and their lives.
Nobility, a genetic modification created by Dr. Anthony Lazar, uses
latent animal DNA to cage the human ego and bring mankind a higher moral code
free of envy, greed, and jealousy. Noble means possessing an exceptional
character in the face of adversity. Dreya, Rhys, Quinn, and Simon discover
being Noble and exceptional in a human world isn’t easy.
In the midst of this uncertainty, Dreya puts herself in the line of fire
with a serial killer who has a fetish for eyeballs. What she doesn’t know is …
Nothing is safe and nowhere is private.
It’s not a good time to have secrets.
About the Author
Where did my writing begin?
In the winter of 2002 I sat down and wrote my first romance. This
surreal experience lasted 7 days, with a one day break in the middle. I wrote
10,000 words a day. What I produced was awful, but a great story. I had
obviously been bitten, and yet I didn't know how to write, simple as that. So
the process of learning how to write began for me with RWA. I jumped into the
conferences, seminars and online courses with determination, reading books on
how to write, and how not to write. I went to meetings with other want-to-be
writers and published authors and listened to what everyone had to say. I
shelved the first novel because another story had taken root in my mind and I
began THE ROSETTA COIN. My critique partner sent it back looking like sushi.
:-( But I kept working because I knew writing was a talent I could polish. The
paranormal experiences my characters work through are loosely based on the
possibilities of a Multidimensional Universe laced with the spooky actions of
Quantum physics. A new time travel romance is currently working, with plans for
another adventure novel coming next, followed by a sequel to Druae. Adding to
this mix, I have an idea for a time traveler series. It seems there is always
another story to write, bringing new readers to Dana's work.

NHS Nurses in my Novels #NHS70
Did you know that some of my
novels feature NHS nurses and doctors as supporting characters? I mention this
only because we are celebrating 70 years of the National Health Service, and I thought
you might be interested…
In the Redcliffe Novels
series, we meet NHS nurse Sally Frost who leads a double life as lieutenant and
law enforcer for the Redcliffe werewolf pack. She is helplessly in love with
her alpha wolf, but he won’t commit, so she settles for the unofficial role of
alpha female as they battle to keep the enemy out and their wolves safe… but
sometimes their own wolves can cause trouble, as we discover when Sally has a
run-in with her professional colleague from the hospital, Dr Kimberley Wayne. Download your FREE copy
of It’s
Complicated to see what happens.
In Vampire of Blackpool you
can read what happens when an ancient female vampire meets a young witch who
works as an NHS nurse. They fall into an unexpected romance with deadly
consequences, made worse by the appearance of a vampire hunter. You will find references
to the NHS in most of my novels, actually, since my hunters, humans and
creatures usually end up in the hospital at some point during their adventures.

Eye of the Tiger (A Redcliffe Novel) – Book 4
Excerpt -
Glancing at the wall clock I saw that the time was barely two
o’clock. It felt
like I was in a time warp here, waiting to close the shop and see what magical
mischief I could get into that evening. At least, that’s how my life seemed now. Perhaps I
was being a little melodramatic.
“Alright,” Jack replied, “What has upset you?”
“Oh, the usual,” I said with a huge sigh, “Finding out I’m a witch with a scary animal
familiar, discovering that my boyfriend is a vampire, oh and that my local
friends are werewolves. Or were,” I caught my breath as the tears surged forward again.
“You are mourning the loss of your
friend,” Jack said, “It is only natural for a human.”
I nodded and
then remembered that Jack was on the phone.
“Yes,” I replied quietly, “She was too young to die like that.”
“She did her duty as pack lieutenant,” Jack said, “She was a hero.”
“Doesn’t make it any easier,” I said.
“No,” Jack agreed, “You need time to ease the pain.”
