A Vampire Lord Seduces His Wife in Victorian England

What do you know about vampires in Victorian England? I suspect that servants witnessed a lot of strange behaviour inside those grand country homes. And what of the relationship between a gentleman and his wife?

Here is an excerpt from The Darkness of Love where our powerful love rival, Lord Gregory Stockton, snatches an erotic embrace with his pretty young wife, Sarah.

Excerpt from The Darkness of Love

He slid his hands down her sides, smoothing over the rich taffeta, and she stood very still, enjoying his caress despite her embarrassment at his bold behaviour.  Resting his hands on her hips, Gregory lowered his handsome youthful face and tenderly kissed her rosebud lips. His body reacted as it always did to her tenderness. She was delicate, so beautiful, and always so compliant for him. His teeth itched as his fangs fought to free themselves, and it took all his self-control not to bite her white skin, and drink deeply of her sweet blood.

Victorian Vampire Horror Story ‘The Darkness of Love’

Today I share with you an excerpt from my Victorian vampire horror story The Darkness of Love, where we meet Marcus Scott from #TheRedcliffeNovels and hear his origin story.

Excerpt

Marcus stirred slowly. He blinked and opened his eyes, wondering what had happened and where he was. His mind was strangely empty. He did not feel drunk, and he did not feel ill. But he wasn’t sure what these strange sensations were. He was lying on a sofa. He sat bolt upright when he realised it was in Lord Stockton’s study.  He sensed another presence in the room, and his eyes alighted on the still figure of Amelia Richmond, watching him from her seat on the adjacent sofa. She was smiling, and Marcus’ heart skipped a beat and started pounding.

“My Lady,” he gasped, leaping off the sofa, “Why am I here? What happened?”

Amelia continued to stare at him. There was something unnatural about the way she sat, something inhuman. Slowly, Marcus remembered what had happened.

“I drank his blood,” he whispered, touching his lips, “He is a monster.”

Christmas with the Vampires

Are you feeling festive already? Here's a sneaky snippet from my short story Christmas with the Vampires

Excerpt

Marcus cut a striking figure in his dark red velvet frock coat, jaunty black silk top hat, and impeccable tailored suit. The rough corduroy trousers, linen shirt and leather waistcoat of his human days were long forgotten, although he had kept his old work clothes as a reminder of his youth. The man did not look a day over twenty five in age, but then his physical body was frozen in time due to his vampire genetics.  His eyes alone betrayed the experience of his age, and many unsuspecting humans were left mystified when they tried to talk down to Marcus Scott only to be politely rebuffed when he demonstrated his knowledge and expertise in the matter at hand. He rarely lost his temper, but when he did he was a force to be reckoned with, vampire or not.

Vampire Seduction Games in The Darkness of Love

Are you in the mood for some forbidden romance and a vicious backlash from the possessive husband? Then read The Darkness of Love. This Victorian vampire story tells us how Marcus Scott (from the Redcliffe novels) became the man he is today.

Excerpt

Gregory smiled as he surveyed the poor, helpless young man in Amelia’s bed.  She reported that Marcus had been excellent, strong, and compliant, and extremely invigorating. Now he lay staring at Gregory with a mixture of terror and defiance on his youthful face. He swallowed nervously, unsure whether to speak, and he pulled the bed sheet higher as though to try and conceal his obvious state of undress.

“Good morning, Marcus,” Lord Stockton said as he approached the bed, “I understand you are feeling ill.”

            Marcus nodded.

“I apologize, my Lord,” he replied in a hoarse voice, “this appears very improper, and it will not happen again.”

“Do not fear  me, Marcus, at least not yet” Gregory replied briskly, “You may rest for a while until you are strong enough to return to your room. I do not require your assistance today; I would rather you regain your strength. Now rest, and I will send a maid with clothes and food for you. I am sure this is simply a lethargy and will pass within the day.”

“Thank you, my Lord,” Marcus replied weakly, “I am indebted to you,” .

“No matter,” Gregory said, “I am aware of Amelia’s activity, and I understand that you were totally at her mercy. We will not speak of this again.”

Ooh, steamy! Lady Amelia has a hearty appetite, pardon the pun, and when she demands attention, she gets it. Click here to read the full story.

Enjoy a Victorian Love Affair on Holiday

This summer isn’t turning out quite as we expected. Or maybe it is. Here in the UK we are “strongly advised” to stay local as much as possible and only take a holiday within our country. I am happy enough with the arrangement since I don’t crave anywhere exotic. I am just as happy on Blackpool beach as I would be anywhere else!

Perhaps you need some books for your summer reading selection. May I offer a suggestion or several? I know a rather cheeky, seductive vampire who loves attention, and you can find him in the Redcliffe novels series and in his own standalone novel and short story.

Have you met Marcus Scott? He is a millionaire playboy who first appears in Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel), leaving a trail of chaos and confusion in his wake. He was never meant to be such a powerful character. But he is very persuasive, especially when he turns on the charm and fixes that icy blue gaze on me… *swoon*

You can find out more about Marcus Scott in the Redcliffe novels, a contemporary adult paranormal romance series set in Cornwall. And you can read the story of his human life in The Darkness of Love, set on a Victorian country estate in Hampshire. He also features in my spin-off short story, Christmas With the Vampires (yes, I know, totally out of season). Happy holidays!

The Darkness of Love by Catherine Green

Today I share an excerpt from The Darkness of Love, where we see the young stable hand Marcus Scott caught in the act as he indulges in some very naughty fantasies about his mistress…

“Good morning, Marcus.” chimed a beautiful feminine voice.

Marcus jumped and dropped the grooming brush, embarrassment sending a flush to his cheeks as he saw the object of his affections framed in the doorway to the stables.

“Good morning my Lady,” he stuttered, “I am so sorry, I didn’t see you arrive.”  He ducked his head and she laughed gently and replied.

“It is alright Marcus,” she said, “I could see that you were daydreaming.  I trust it was a pleasant vision?”

It was Marcus’ turn to laugh, but with further embarrassment.  If only she knew!

“Yes my Lady, a most pleasant daydream,” he replied, “Penelope is all ready for you.  I will just fetch her saddle.”

Delicious, isn’t he? Read more of Marcus in The Darkness of Love here.

Support Small Business this #BlackFriday!

How do you feel about #BlackFriday? It seems more important this year because of the pandemic, with lots of non-essential shops closed during the second lockdown here in England. These shops now have to step up their efforts to sell more products online, competing with big brands and established internet stores. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I believe in not over-commercializing holidays such as Christmas. However, I sell books for a living. If I don’t sell the books I write, I won’t make any money, and that could negatively affect my children and husband.

I propose a compromise: think about the small business owners, including indie authors, craft businesses, local produce etc. They rely on income from the sales of the stock that they lovingly create by hand. We should support those businesses. When I hear about #BlackFriday, my thoughts turn to Amazon. Well, they are made up of small business owners, like me, who rely on royalties paid via Amazon for the sales of our books. Amazon is not necessarily the big bad giant that some people believe. Most of the books published on Amazon will pay decent royalties to their authors, myself included. Check the names of the sellers when you shop, and you will find some small, independent retailers.

Why not search for alternative Christmas gifts for your friends and family? Find them a book written and produced independently by a new author. Try a CD by a young musician. Or even search for some handcrafted bespoke trinkets, jewellery, furniture or bric-a-brac. The small business owners will be far more grateful for your custom and will make more effort to give you the personal customer service that makes you feel good about parting with your hard-earned cash. Thank you.

The Darkness of Love by Catherine Green

A Victorian vampire lord seeks an heir for his estate in this English Gothic novel with passion and flair.

Lord Gregory Stockton is a powerful and respected businessman embracing the modern era of the Victorian industrial revolution. His young wife is infatuated with the stable boy, much to Gregory's amusement. He hatches a plan to bring the would-be lovers together, and then cruelly tear them apart as he continues to build his empire and secure his power base in the south of England. The humans are pawns in the vampire’s game of lust, love and control.

Excerpt

Amelia picked up her glass and took a long sip of the rich red wine.  When she spoke again her eyes were glowing and her fangs had extended delicately.  Gregory felt her energy filling the room, and he smiled, responding with a lash of his own cold power.  He possessed the energy and strength of diamonds, hard and impenetrable.  Amelia shivered, her lips curling in a hiss, and wrapped her violet sparks around him in a cold, sharp embrace.  To a human there was nothing unusual in this room, but to a vampire, it was electric and very exciting.  They played a fine line between safety and danger, and Amelia thrived on danger.
“You wish for me to seduce this young man at your party next week?” Amelia asked, still caressing Gregory with her power, while she stood like a marble statue in front of the fireplace.
Gregory nodded, keeping his cool silver gaze fixed on her black eyes.  He tried so hard to ignore his Mistress’ advances, but he could never refuse her.  He belonged to her, and he was not strong enough to break free.
“Yes,” he said, “I am sure he will be compliant, for he is a man with vigorous appetites, or so I hear from the villagers.  He has a reputation among the workers’ daughters.”
Amelia smiled and nodded, her eyes glowing with excitement.  She licked her lips, and her eyes showed a glimmer of fire, deep in the pupils.  She was a contradiction of everything the vampires knew about themselves.  She burned with both fire and ice, and no-one could escape her trap when she set it.
“I will not disappoint my oldest friend.” she said simply.
