Book Spotlight: Beloved Woman by Jonathan Kimba

Beloved Woman: Male Author Delivers Exceptional New Romantic Novel – Heartfelt, Traumatic and Utterly Engaging.

They say true love often travels on a gravel road, which is certainly true for the characters Benjamin and Abigail, lovers featured in Jonathan Kimba’s new romantic fiction piece ‘Beloved Woman.’ This book is at times raw, heartfelt, and highly volatile- inviting readers to journey with the pair as their lives lurch from one dramatic scenario to another. As the relationship appears to start to crumble, Cupid intervenes and kick-starts the affair again. Just like magnets, the couple are attracted and then repelled, time and time again. Will it all have a happy ending? You’ll be absorbed in this skilfully constructed romantic literature finding out.

Romantic fiction has long been regarded as the reserve and perhaps preserve of female authors, but there’s been a recent, gradual trend of men putting their hearts and reputation on the line by producing some exceptional works - John Green, Nicholas Sparks, Graeme Simsion, Richard Paul Evans, and Charles Martin, to name but a few of the best. Like any other category of writing, great romance fiction is written (and sold) by both women and men. One of the most successful writers in the early years of romantic fiction was Tom Huff, who wrote under the pseudonym of Jennifer Wilde.

Fast emerging as one of the best of British romantic fiction authors is Jonathan Kimba and his new novel ‘Beloved Woman’ is testament to that. It’s a powerful piece of writing depicting a relationship which endures for many years, with all its trials, tribulations, and ecstasies. A real rollercoaster of emotions which will have you hooked from beginning to end. Hold on to your hat - you’re in for a bumpy ride!

Synopsis of Beloved Woman by Jonathan Kimba

A love story spanning generations . . . a saga to take your breath away!

Two people grow up believing that one true love was never meant to be, and their dreams might always remain unfulfilled. But fate always has different plans for the naĆÆve, doesn’t it? Fall in love as our lovers go through an immense, intense, and transformative experience, drifting apart but being drawn back together by a magnetic force time and time again.

Be transported into this multi-generational journey, of endearment, lust, pain, regret and, last but not the least, coming together despite all odds being stacked against ultimate love.

In the author’s words

“I like to think my work is romance writing at its finest and also that I am one of the few male writers in romance fiction.”

About the author

Jonathan Kimba’s debut work is the result of an inspiration-driven blossoming writing journey. The journey of love that is ‘Beloved Woman’ narrates the passionate love story of Benjamin in his pursuit of Abigail, a conscientious social worker, and an upright lawyer.

Through the story, Jonathan takes his readers through a breath-taking show of resilience, determination and will, as evidenced by Benjamin winning Abigail, despite Abigail pushing him out of the way due to the painful love experiences she has had in the past.

Jonathan currently resides in England, where he spends his time gathering inspiration for writing his romance novels. You can find him pursuing his other cherished passion, football, in his spare time. You can see him either on the pitch playing the sport or coaching other football players at the academy team.

Suspicious Werewolves in Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel)

Should you return to the wolves’ lair when you almost died in their fight a month ago?

Our heroine, Jessica Stone, knows she should stay well away from danger, but something draws her to the alpha, and then there’s her best friend who just happens to be the werewolf lieutenant. How can she turn her back on them now?

Excerpt from Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel) Book 2

Danny stared straight at me with familiar deep blue, hypnotic eyes. It was as though I was staring at Jack, and I struggled to collect myself. His voice was soft, gentle, and even sensual. I was very aware of his hands on my shoulders, the strength in his body.
“They know I am fond of you Jessica,” he said quietly, “I cannot deny that. And I have never invited humans into our lair before. My wolves are mistrustful because the females want to offer themselves as my mate. The position would elevate their individual power and control, and for them it is a desirable role.”
I slowly took in what he was saying.
“So, they think that I want to be your mate?” I asked slowly.
Danny nodded.
“But that’s crazy,” I exclaimed, “I don’t want to be a werewolf! I mean…”
I faltered, embarrassed and Danny smiled.
“It’s fine Jessica,” he said, “do not worry. Of course you don’t want to be a wolf, you are in love with Jack. I have no desire to change you in that way.”
He stopped and swallowed slowly, then fixed that intense gaze on me again.
“But I do have strong feelings for you Jessica,” he continued, “I cannot deny that. And the wolves know it. They are jealous because I do not show the same attraction to them.”

Ooh, now it’s getting interesting! Will Jessica succumb to the alpha wolf, or will she stay true to her vampire boyfriend? Read the book to get the whole story. Click here.

Vampire Seduction Games in The Darkness of Love

Are you in the mood for some forbidden romance and a vicious backlash from the possessive husband? Then read The Darkness of Love. This Victorian vampire story tells us how Marcus Scott (from the Redcliffe novels) became the man he is today.

Excerpt

Gregory smiled as he surveyed the poor, helpless young man in Amelia’s bed.  She reported that Marcus had been excellent, strong, and compliant, and extremely invigorating. Now he lay staring at Gregory with a mixture of terror and defiance on his youthful face. He swallowed nervously, unsure whether to speak, and he pulled the bed sheet higher as though to try and conceal his obvious state of undress.

“Good morning, Marcus,” Lord Stockton said as he approached the bed, “I understand you are feeling ill.”

            Marcus nodded.

“I apologize, my Lord,” he replied in a hoarse voice, “this appears very improper, and it will not happen again.”

“Do not fear  me, Marcus, at least not yet” Gregory replied briskly, “You may rest for a while until you are strong enough to return to your room. I do not require your assistance today; I would rather you regain your strength. Now rest, and I will send a maid with clothes and food for you. I am sure this is simply a lethargy and will pass within the day.”

“Thank you, my Lord,” Marcus replied weakly, “I am indebted to you,” .

“No matter,” Gregory said, “I am aware of Amelia’s activity, and I understand that you were totally at her mercy. We will not speak of this again.”

Ooh, steamy! Lady Amelia has a hearty appetite, pardon the pun, and when she demands attention, she gets it. Click here to read the full story.

#BookReview: Gone Dutch by Louise Murchie

A beautiful, sweet story.

I am not usually a fan of sweet romance, but I decided to try after enjoying the author's recent novels. I enjoyed the story and the fairy tale elements combined with modern-day practicality.

A widow finds love for a second time when she least expects it, and changes her whole life for the man she loves. There is long-distance romance, steamy sex scenes, description of normal family life, and some luxury lifestyle elements for good measure.

I will say that the book could have used a little more editing and some of the writing is clumsy, but that doesn’t detract from the overall story. It had me wanting to read more, unable to put down my Kindle, and I spent a whole morning on holiday reading until I had finished the book because I needed to.

A lovely holiday read!

The Vampire of Blackpool Tells Her Story

Are you planning a holiday to Blackpool this year? You had better watch out for the resident vampire and her companions. Here’s an excerpt from Vampire of Blackpool:

Excerpt

Leaping into the air, I struggled to ascend at first. My balance was unsteady, and my body felt like a lead weight. Gritting my teeth, I forced my mind to focus, and I managed a swift if unstable flight to the hospital. Fortunately, it was only a short distance away, but by the time I alighted behind a brick store shed in the grounds of my destination, I almost collapsed. I was starving. I was weak. I managed to walk slowly across the road and towards the double doors that led into the waiting room for the casualty department. There were ambulances and vehicles coming and going, but the pavement was strangely empty of people. All the busy life was contained within the building.
Staggering through the automatic doors, I gasped as a wave of sheer exhaustion poured over me. I was descending into bloodlust. I very nearly attacked the first person I set eyes on, but at the last moment managed to control myself. I was surrounded by beating hearts and succulent bodies. I needed blood. As I leaned against the wall, my breath rasping, my eyes wild with hunger and pain, I became aware of voices approaching as two nurses hurried to my aid.
“Here,” one woman shouted, “Let us help you.”

There’s a Vampire Hunter in Town! New British Paranormal Suspense

I was searching through old files recently and discovered this little gem from a work in progress. It’s a vampire hunter novel set in and around Middlewich, UK, my hometown.

I started writing it when a fan approached me on an event and asked if I could bring the vampires closer to home. I happily took up the challenge, but the book is not finished. I should return to that later this year if nothing else distracts me in the meantime. Anyway, here is an excerpt to tantalise your imagination:

Excerpt

“Dr Worthington,” the man said politely as he stood before her.

She looked up at him without smiling. He wore blue jeans and a red checked shirt. His blue eyes sparkled with power, and his short blond hair was carefully styled.  She knew immediately that he was much older than the mid-twenties age range that he embodied.

“Yes,” she said, “Who are you?”

“My name is Kian,” the vampire replied, “Mr Vance is expecting you. Please, follow me.”

He turned and walked back the way he came. Jennifer looked around the room, but everyone seemed preoccupied, perhaps a little too studiously. Narrowing her eyes, she stood up and followed the vampire, her fingers flexing at her sides as she resisted drawing her guns too soon. The humans were most likely enchanted not to notice the vampires. It would cause chaos if Jennifer suddenly began wielding a gun and fighting with a powerful undead creature right in front of them.

She found herself walking into a long corridor at the back of the building, and she noted the exit leading out onto the car park. Kian led her up a wide flight of stairs and stopped outside a brown painted door on the landing above the pub. This was it.  He knocked once and then opened the door carefully. Jennifer had to follow. Drawing her guns, she squared her shoulders, let out a breath, and stepped into the room, keeping her back to the wall and the exit in sight.

                                            -----------------------------------------

Phew! That was tense. I need to get that finished, the first draft is about halfway complete and there was a fantastic twist at that point if I recall… The vampire hunter is not all that she seems.

Book Review: DƬonadair: Tango Down Duology Part 1 - A Scottish second chance romance by Louise Murchie

It’s a long time since I read a book that stayed with me like this one. I got so hooked that I had to read it in one day, wandering around the house with my kindle in my hands, trying to multitask. That is the sign of a good book for me!

The bit I enjoyed most was the three-way relationship that developed between Blythe and her men (brothers, by the way). Maybe it speaks to my inner thoughts, but I found it fascinating and interesting to read. Throw in the military references, modern technology, suspense, and mystery, and you have an intense book to read.

I haven't read anything like this before and now I'm desperate for the sequel. Mature characters, tech galore, suspense and action. And let's not forget the 3-way sex and lots of it! I like that the story is set in Edinburgh, it makes a nice change from the heavy London focus for this type of novel. I loved it!

Book Review: This is What You’ll Get by Bobbie Collings

“Let’s face it, even when it’s an accident, someone must take the blame.” – from This is What You’ll Get by Bobbie Collings.

I really enjoyed this book! It appears to be a cheerful romance novel, something not too heavy that will take you away from the stresses of daily life for a while. Featuring older characters (30-something), some with children, some without, and the protagonists being wealthy and carefree, there are elements of this story that I can relate to and some that I aspire to. I did identify with a few of the characters, although some of the younger ones did come across perhaps more self-aware than I think young people generally are. However, I speak from the experience of a woman who grew up before social media became the norm, so maybe I’m out of touch myself.

This book is definitely one for 21st century attitudes but featuring older characters that I could relate to. It is a hefty tome at 533 pages, and it could benefit from another proofread and editing session to tighten it up and correct some grammatical errors, but I don’t think that detracts from the overall story. I was a little irritated that the female characters were described as “girls” throughout the novel, even though for the most part they were mature women. That might just be my attitude, however, or maybe it was intentional by the author, I don’t know.

There is a lot of sex in this book so be warned if that is not your thing. I enjoyed it, but there were a few scenes that left me feeling squeamish. I suppose it depends on what your kink is. The characters did seem overly mature and understanding with each other and I would have expected more animosity or conflict in some of the scenarios. That said, I also find it refreshing to read a book where people are not immediately judging each other for their lifestyle choices, and it is made clear throughout the story that all characters are consenting adults. There are no nasty games here, only adult fun.

The ending is not what I expected and does provide an interesting twist that will leave you pondering about social norms, morals and our attitudes towards love and relationships. I am open-minded myself and do not conform to traditional marriage norms, so I enjoyed reading this book for that reason. It is nice to know that there are people who can integrate a healthy sex life into their world without it being taboo or hidden. We all do it, we just don’t like to talk about it! Well, in this book, they do talk about it a lot and while it was a bit much sometimes, generally I enjoyed the subject and the way it was described.

The Wolf and the Fairy by Catherine Green

She is a werewolf hunter, descended from ancient fairies, destined to fulfil her role in the family business. He is a lone wolf, his family brutally torn away, revenge his motivation for existence. The fairy and the wolf come together in a violent union as this modern, adult fairy tale gives us an alternative account of life in ancient Britain, and how it has evolved in the present day.

Excerpt

Tania was like a coiled spring. She had to hunt. She had to get some aggression out of her system. Leaving her art materials behind, she grabbed some spare weapons from the boot of her car, and set off in the direction of a local pub. She would listen to stories from the townsfolk until she could decipher exactly where the rogue werewolves might be located.

She found a target sooner than expected. As she entered the small ancient pub that overlooked the harbour, her skin tingled ominously as her magic recognized that of a wolf. Hesitating just inside the door, she looked around the tiny room, taking in the wooden fireplace and corner bar, and the six occupants, all staring at her curiously. There were four men and two women. One of the men was a werewolf. He stared at her, and his nostrils flared as he scented her magic. His lip curled in a low growl, and Tania clenched her jaw, calling him out with her defiant stare. The man stood up slowly and advanced upon her without a word. She stepped back outside and waited for him to join her. He followed her up a narrow path onto the cliff top overlooking the village. There was a coppice of trees up here, and Tania hoped it would provide enough cover for her to kill the wolf.

Romancing the Witch, Werewolf Style!

This year I am revamping my Redcliffe novels series with brand new book covers and updated interior content. The stories remain the same, but these novels are growing up!

Here is an excerpt from Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel), Book 2:

“This is all for you, Jessica,” Danny said, “I can no longer deny my feelings for you.”

My heart skipped a beat and the room spun around me. It was nothing to do with the whisky. I swallowed nervously, again glancing from Jack to Danny. My boyfriend was silent at my side, and I was aware of Simon standing just in front of the desk.

“W-what do you mean?” I asked shakily.

Danny placed his hands on my knees, and I sat rigid, unable to move. Suri stirred again within me. I was aware of her lifting her head, surveying the scene with interest. I could hear her thinking how useful this situation could be to her. She pleaded again for me to allow her release.

“Not now, Suri,” I whispered, and Danny looked at me sharply.

“Your tiger is here,” he said with a faint smile, “I can feel her. She wants me. Do you want me, Jessica?”

I licked my lips nervously. Yes, I wanted Danny, and it terrified me. How could I do this to Jack? Surely, I could not be in love with two men. It wasn’t possible. Well, maybe it wasn’t love. But I certainly felt something for Danny, and I could no longer deny it. He knew. He stared at me with growing comprehension, and his expression grew triumphant.

The Redcliffe novels follow the adventures of bookshop owner Jessica Stone as she meets a man and falls in love, only to discover that he is a vampire, and his identical twin brother is alpha to the local werewolf pack. She is dragged into their complicated and dangerous lives to her detriment, where she discovers that nothing is as it seems in the pretty Cornish town that she calls home. Happy New Year from Paranormal Author Catherine Green

Happy New Year my bookish friends! How do you feel as we move into 2022?

I have experienced a disconnect from my writing for the past couple of years while I battled being a single parent alongside lockdowns, growing children and family drama. My writing time dwindled to nothing as I prioritised the needs of my family and friends and devoted more of my time to selfcare and reiki self-healing treatments.

This year I need to return to my books. There is still one more Redcliffe novel awaiting completion and publication, but I have hesitated due to a complete lack of interest in the series so far. With five novels published my sales have been practically non-existent. I know I am a good writer. I know my books are good. I also know that I cannot write, promote, sell, and plan my marketing all by myself, and I cannot afford to pay someone to do it for me. All I can do is write because it makes me happy and if my books are meant to be found I will trust in the Universe to bring forward my readers. I have exhausted all available avenues within my reach.

It is not only my Redcliffe novels series that needs attention. I have the sequel to Vampire of Blackpool in progress, and the sequel to my as-yet unpublished novel Hunting the Hunted. And then are more novels to write for my vampire hunter series. I have submitted the manuscript for Hunting the Hunted to various publishers and agents without success, but I refuse to give up.

And so, this year for me will be about writing. I need to go back to basics and do what makes me happy. What will you do this year?

Support Small Business this #BlackFriday!

Are you looking for the best #BlackFriday deals this year? It seems more important now because of the pandemic, with lots of non-essential shops still recovering from lockdowns and restrictions here in England. These shops have had to increase their efforts to sell more products online, competing with big brands and established internet stores. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I believe in not over-commercializing holidays such as Christmas. However, I sell books for a living. If I don’t sell the books I write, I won’t make any money, and that could negatively affect my children and husband.

I propose a compromise: think about the small business owners, including indie authors, craft businesses, local produce etc. They rely on income from the sales of the stock that they lovingly create by hand. We should support those businesses. When I hear about #BlackFriday, my thoughts turn to Amazon. Well, they are made up of small business owners, like me, who rely on royalties paid via Amazon for the sales of our books. Amazon is not necessarily the big bad giant that some people believe. Most of the books published on Amazon will pay decent royalties to their authors, myself included. Check the names of the sellers when you shop, and you will find some small, independent retailers.

Why not search for alternative Christmas gifts for your friends and family? Find them a book written and produced independently by a local author. Try a CD or buy tickets to see a local musician. Or even search for some handcrafted bespoke trinkets, jewellery, furniture or bric-a-brac. The small business owners will be far more grateful for your custom and will make more effort to give you the personal customer service that makes you feel good about parting with your hard-earned cash. Thank you.

Vampire of Blackpool by Catherine Green

Here is an excerpt from Vampire of Blackpool, one of my passion projects that I birthed several years ago:

“Meredith!” she called, hurrying over to me, “You came!”

She held a glass of wine in one hand and a small clutch bag tucked under her other arm. I stood still as she approached, careful to keep my expression blank. She faltered a little as she realised I was not so excited about her presence.

“Are you alright?” she asked uncertainly, “You look pale.”
I had to smile at her sweet naivety, and she tried not to gasp as she saw my fangs exposed.

“I am hungry,” I replied, “I have not yet found suitable food.”
“Oh,” she said quietly, glancing around her, “Where do you usually, um, find food?”

“You know the rules, Meredith,” Paul said levelly, “No feeding in my pub. Take it outside.”
