I follow this author on social media and was attracted to the book, so I bought my copy and added it to my summer reading list. I was not disappointed! Read on to see my review.

My Review

Reading this story had me drawing comparisons with my own life, and I really felt for Ben and Raz. The book is sweet, dramatic and I think it offers a great example of 21st Century literature. I describe this book as beautiful, emotional, and sweet!

The book was well written and carefully edited.

#BookReview The Real Thing by Felicity Rose

I follow this author on social media and was attracted to the book, so I bought my copy and added it to my summer reading list. I was not disappointed! Read on to see my review.

My Review

I really enjoyed this story! There are elements that I personally relate to when Saskia and James begin to explore each other intimately. It was nice to see sex described in more detail that the vanilla portrayal we are used to seeing in literature. And it was steamy! There was a huge twist at the end that I didn’t see coming, much like so many events in real life, and while it left me feeling a bit disgruntled, the author has left it wide open for a sequel, so I look forward to reading that.

The book could have done with a bit more editing, and I got confused part-way through when the writing style randomly switched for a few paragraphs. I think maybe the author got so caught up in the story that they just wrote and maybe didn’t pick it up during the editing phase. Despite this I read the book very quickly which is always a sign I enjoyed it, and the story stayed with me.

I was barefoot, and almost slipped down the stairs in my haste. I stood on tiptoes, looked through the peephole and saw the top of Jack’s head. He must be looking down for some reason. I flung open the door, and then gasped in horror. He was leaning against the doorframe, his face covered in blood from what looked liked a large gash above his right eye, and several scratches and cuts on his cheeks and chin. His clothes were dirty, torn, and bloody, and he fell through the door into my arms. Instinctively I tried to catch him, and fell to the floor with a cry, trying to support his weight. 

“Jack!” I cried, “Jack can you hear me? Speak to me!”

Young Adult Vampire Fun in "The Teen Game"

Here is an excerpt from my first published short story, The Teen Game that you can find in the anthology Devils, Demons and Werewolves. 

His mouth was a little sloppy I have to admit but it was certainly exciting to be embraced by such a young boy after so many years! I gradually showed him how to kiss me properly using my tongue, lips and teeth and then I felt his hands slide instinctively down my body, although he carefully avoided my breasts to begin with. He was so innocent and clearly a virgin. As much as I liked to torment myself with my little games, I was thirsty; I hadn’t fed all day and was beginning to feel weak. His pulse was beating against my skin, and I kissed in a seductive line down his jaw until my mouth hovered over that delicate place, and I inhaled his warm, sweet scent. Then I struck, quick, fast, biting a neat little hole and drinking deeply of his youthful blood. He cried out but it was muffled against my hair and I projected calming thoughts into his mind, persuading him that we were simply kissing and caressing each other, nothing more. He became still against me and when I had finished and pushed him gently away, he swayed a little and struggled to focus on my face. When he spoke his voice was hoarse. 

  “Whoa that was intense!" he stuttered, "So, um, I should get you home, Liz!”

Marcus cut a striking figure in his dark red velvet frock coat, jaunty black silk top hat, and impeccable tailored suit. The rough corduroy trousers, linen shirt and leather waistcoat of his human days were long forgotten, although he had kept his old work clothes as a reminder of his youth. The man did not look a day over twenty five in age, but then his physical body was frozen in time due to his vampire genetics.  His eyes alone betrayed the experience of his age, and many unsuspecting humans were left mystified when they tried to talk down to Marcus Scott only to be politely rebuffed when he demonstrated his knowledge and expertise in the matter at hand. He rarely lost his temper, but when he did he was a force to be reckoned with, vampire or not.

Just your average Cheshire Housewife - who used to hunt Vampires!

I had this vague idea that I would stab her through the heart and finish her off, but I knew it wouldn’t be that simple. My heart raced when I thought about her. I remembered the taste of her lips, the touch of her fingers, and the way she would stare at me so intensely. I almost drifted into a daydream, until I heard car horns blaring and returned my attention to the road. The last thing I needed right now was a car accident because I wasn’t thinking straight. Nope. Now I had to switch back into ‘Mummy’ mode and go and take care of my children. I was doing this for them, after all.

The Vampires, the Vampire Hunter, and the Witch in Blackpool, England

 “Good morning, Jack,” I said pleasantly.

I turned to Samantha and then glanced at Ryan.

“May I introduce my old friend, Jack Mason,” I said to them both.

Jack sat down beside Ryan smoothly, and the hunter shifted uneasily in his chair, moving away from the strange visitor. Samantha stared in surprise.

“You’re a vampire,” she said quietly.

Jack smiled and nodded, and then turned towards Ryan.

“And you must be the hunter I have heard so much about,” he said confidently, “I am familiar with your organization, although I have not yet come across your name on their records. Are you one of the selected elite?”

Ryan frowned and his energy spiked defensively.

“How do you know about us?” he asked in a low voice.

Jack’s smile faded.

“I am a police detective,” he announced, “And I came to Blackpool yesterday when we received word about a series of murders with suspiciously similar causes of death.”

Werewolf Passion in Cornwall, England

 “You wanted to see me, Master?” I asked formally.

Danny suddenly leaped round the desk and grabbed me in a passionate embrace. I cried out in surprise as my body impacted with the rough stone wall, and I hungrily returned his kisses, growls of excitement escaping from both of us. He ground his body against me, fondling and grabbing my curves, as I pushed my hands underneath his shirt and raked my nails across his skin, our beasts rising in response to our lust.

We jumped apart as someone cleared his throat loudly. Danny turned round, and we saw Simon standing in the doorway, grinning at us mischievously.

“I don’t like to interrupt, but the pack is assembled in the throne room.” he said, inclining his head, “maybe I could join you both to finish this later?”

He winked and licked his lips.

Surfer Werewolves in Cornwall #TheRedcliffeNovels

He left with a brief nod to Danny and Simon. When the door closed behind him, I looked at the two wolves standing in my kitchen. Both looked like stereotypical surfer dudes. Danny was wearing khaki trousers with a bright yellow t-shirt that had a crazy abstract print on it. Simon was wearing black baggy shorts with a green t-shirt. His blonde hair fell in unruly waves around his face, and his sunglasses were hooked into the front of the t-shirt. I hadn’t even noticed the sun shining outside, although I did feel the unusual warmth of this early autumn day.

“Ok,” I said with a sigh, “Shall we go and watch TV like normal people?”
